Media drives/
connections
Introduction
There are var ious media drives and connect ions
ava ilab le in the MMI. For example, you can play
aud io/video * files from the Jukebox, or you can
connect a portable device to the Audi mus ic inter-
face* and operate it through the MMI.

General information
Media and format restrictions :
The MMI (includ-
ing the SD card reader and the USB storage de-
vice connect ion*) was tested w it h a var iety of
products and me dia on the market . Howeve r,
there may be cas es where ind ividual devices or
media and aud io/v ideo* fi les may not be rec og-
nized, m ay play only wit h rest rict ions or may not
play at a ll.
The MMI me dia dr ives do not suppo rt Windows
Media Audio 9 Voice, W indows Med ia Aud io 9
Loss less and W indows Media 9 Professional fo r-
mats .
Data protection : Note that aud io/video * files are
subject to copyrig ht laws.
The med ia drives do not play fi les that are pro -
tected by ORM and that are identified with the
symbo l @.
Data security: Never store important data on the
memory cards, the Jukebox, CDs/DVDs or porta-
ble aud io devices . Audi is not respo ns ible for
damaged or lost fi les and med ia.
Loading t imes: The more files/folders/play lists
that are o n a storage medium, the longer it will
take to load the audio/v ideo fi les* . Audi recom-
mends us ing storage media that only conta in au-
d io/video files*. To decrease t he t ime it t akes t o
load audio/v ideo files *, create subfo lde rs (for ex-
ample, for the ar t ist or album) . The loading time
will also increase when im porting fi les.
Additional information : When playing, aud io
files are au t omati cally d isp layed wit h a ny ad di-
tional informa t ion that is sto red (such as the ar-

tist, trac k and album cover). If this informa t ion is
not available on the sto rage med ium, the MMI
will chec k Gracenote . However, in some cases,
the addit ional information may not be d isp layed.

CD/DVD mode
CD/DVD and format restrictions:
The func t ional -
ity of individu a l storage med ia may be limited
due to t he va riety of blan k CDs/DVDs available
and the various capac ities . Audio CDs or video
DVDs w ith copy protection, CDs/DVDs that do not
conform to the standard and mu ltisession CDs
may not play or playback may be lim ited . Audi
recommends finalizing the recording process
whe n creating m ultisession CDs. Mult isess io n is
not supported fo r DVDs.
Using CDs/ DVDs and the DVD drive : To ensure
good, high-quality sound reprod uction and to
prevent damage to t he d rive or disc reading er-
ro rs, a lways st o re CDs/ DVDs in a protective
sleeve and d o no t expose t hem to direc t su nlight.
Do
not use :
- Damaged, dirty or sc ratc hed CDs/DVDs
- Sing le CDs/DVDs (3 inch/8 cm diameter)
- CD/DVDs that are not round
- CDs/DVDs with labels
- Protective rings
- Clean ing CDs
Thermal protection switch : CD/DVD playback
may be temporar ily unava ilable if ou t side tem-
peratures are extremely hot or cold. A t he rma l
protection switch is installed to pro t ect t he CD/
DVD an d the laser.
Laser devices: Lase r devi ces are d ivided int o safe-
ty classes 1 to 4 in accordance wit h DIN IEC 76
(CO) 6/VD E 0 837 . The opt ica l reade rs that are in-
stalled conform to safety class
