Engine Oil Drain Plug (Oil Pan Under Transmission, View From Left Side of Vehicle)
1. Ride motorcycle until engine is warmed up to normal operating temperature.
2. See Checking Engine Oil Level. Remove the cap to remove the oil filler plug/dipstick.
3. See Engine Oil Drain Plug (Oil Pan Under Transmission, View From Left Side of
Vehicle). Remove the engine oil drain plug with O ring. Allow oil to completely drain into a
suitable container.
Use Harley Davidson oil filter wrench for filter removal.
This tool can prevent damage to crankshaft position
sensor and/or sensor cable. (00192b)
4. See Oil Filter Wrench. Remove the oil filter using the OIL FILTER WRENCH HD 42311 or
OIL FILTER WRENCH HD 44067 . Clean the oil filter mount flange of any old gasket
material.
NOTE:
Dispose of oil and oil filter in accordance with local regulations.
5. See Applying Thin Oil Film. Lube the gasket on new oil filter with engine oil and install
new filter. Hand tighten oil filter one half to three quarters of a turn after gasket contacts
filter mounting surface.
6. See Engine Oil Drain Plug (Oil Pan Under Transmission, View From Left Side of
Vehicle). Install oil tank drain plug.
a. Inspect O ring for tears or damage. Replace if required. Wipe any foreign material
from plug.
b. Install O ring and drain plug and tighten to 14 21 ft lbs (19.0 28.5 Nm).
