MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT 115
j
Valve Clearance
Valve and valve seat w
ear decrease valve clear-
ance, upsetting valve tim ing.
NOTICE
If valve clearance is left unadjusted, wear w ill
eventually cause the valves to remain partly
open; which lowers performance, burns the
valves and valve seats, and may cause seri-
ous engine damage.
Valve clearance for each valve should be checked
and adjusted in accordance with the Periodic Main-
tenance C hart.
Inspection and adjustment should be done by an
authorized Kawasaki dealer.
Valve Clearance
(Engine Cold)
Intake 0.13 0.23 mm (0.0051 0.0091 in.)
Exhaust 0.20 0.30 mm (0.0079 0.011 8 in.)
Engine Air Cleaner
A clogged engine air c
leaner restricts the engine’s
air intake, increasing fuel consumption, reducing en-
gine power, and causing spark plug fouling.
WARNING
A clogged air cleaner may allow dirt and
dust to enter the fuel injection system and
thethrottlemaystickresultinginahaz-
ardous operating condition. Clean the air
filter according to the periodic maintenance
chart; more often if the vehicle is used in
extremely dusty conditions.
NOTICE
A clogged air clea
ner may allow dirt and dust
to enter the engine causing excessive wear
and possible engine damage.
The air filter element should be cleaned in ac-
cordance with the Periodic Maintenance Chart. In
dusty areas, th
e element should be cleaned more
frequently than the recommended interval.
