92 SAFE OPERATION
j
Remember:
•
Some h ills are too steep. Use common s en se .
•
Never drive p ast your limit of visibility. If you can’t
see what is on the oth
er side of the crest of a hill,
slow down until you can get a clear view.
•
Do not turn sidewa y s to the hill.
•
If you get stuck on
a hill, roll slowly stra ight back
down, using the brake, with the shift lever left in
the “H” (Hig h) or “L ” (Low) position.
NOTE
○
When the throttle pedal is released completely and
the e ngine spe e
d drops near an idle, the vehicle
has no engine braking. This is caused by the ve-
hicle’s automatic transmission which releases the
engine at very l
ow spee d to prevent it from stalling.
Use the brakes to control the vehicle’s speed.
Antenna Flag
In hilly country, use
an antenna flag so others can
see you coming from the o ther side of a hill or sand
dune.
Take extra care when a
pproaching blind hill tops
and corners.
