Main work
Loosen nut 1.
Loosen nuts 2.
Adjust the chain tension by turning the adjusting screws 3 left and right.
Guideline
Chain tension 55… 58 mm (2.17… 2.28 in)
Turn adjusting screws 3 on the left and right so that the markings on the left
and right chain adjusters are in the same position relative to the reference
marks A. The rear wheel is then correctly aligned.
Tighten nuts 2.
Make sure that chain adjusters 4 are fitted correctly on adjusting screws 3.
Tighten nut 1.
Guideline
Nut, rear wheel spindle M25x1.5 80 Nm (59 lbf ft)
Info
The wide adjustment range of the chain adjusters (32 mm (1.18 in))
enables different secondary ratios with the same chain length.
Chain adjusters 4 can be turned by 180°.
Finishing work
Remove the motorcycle from the lift stand. ( p. 34)

Preparatory work
Raise the motorcycle with the lift stand. ( p. 34)

Shift gear to neutral.
Check the rear sprocket and engine sprocket for wear.
» If the rear sprocket and engine sprocket are worn:
Replace the rear sprocket or engine sprocket. x

The engine sprocket, rear sprocket and chain should always be
replaced together.

Pull on the upper part of the chain with the specified weight A.
Guideline
Weight, chain wear measurement 10… 15 kg (22… 33 lb.)
Measure the distance B of 18 chain links in the lower chain section.
Info
Chain wear is not always even, so you should repeat this measurement at
different chain positions.

chain section
272 mm (10.71 in)
» If the distance B is greater than the specified measurement:
Replace the chain. x
Info
When the chain is replaced, the rear sprocket and engine sprocket
should also be changed.
New chains wear out faster on old, worn sprockets.
