Lubricant.
NOTE:
Add 45 fl. oz. 1.33 liters only if the primary chaincase or primary chaincase cover has been
removed.
Do not overfill the primary chaincase with lubricant.
Overfilling can cause rough clutch engagement,
incomplete disengagement, clutch drag and/or difficulty in
finding neutral at engine idle. (00199b)
Be sure that no lubricants or fluids get on tires, wheels or
brakes when changing fluid. Traction can be adversely
affected, which could result in loss of control of the
motorcycle and death or serious injury. (00047d)

Check deflection:
At every scheduled service interval.
With transmission in neutral.
At loosest spot in belt.
With motorcycle at room temperature.
With motorcycle upright and rear wheel off the ground or on jiffy stand without rider or
luggage.
To prevent accidental vehicle start up, which could cause
death or serious injury, disconnect negative ( ) battery
cable before proceeding. (00048a)
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. See Battery.
2. Remove left side saddlebag.
3. Slide O ring on gauge toward 0 lbs 0 kg mark.
